It Is Important To Craft A Successful Bid For A Construction Job

Posted on

Any large construction job or any construction job for the government is going to require construction companies and all the subspecialties to place a bid to get the work done. All the bids go to the project manager, general contractor, or people in charge of the job. They will evaluate the bids to see who has the right one. The winning bid is generally the lowest bid that fits within the criteria.

Bid Goal

The goal for any company, like a company that will do all the electrical work, is to craft a bid that meets any criteria that the job requires, while still being a bid low enough to be attractive, but high enough to make a profit. It's a very delicate balance to walk, which is why the open time period for bids is generally several weeks. The person in charge of creating the bid is going to have to have the time to look at the bid and its details, and then do the research on the labor and materials necessary to finish the job within the required time period. What are some of the things that have to make it into a construction bid?

Necessary Materials

One part of any bid needs to be the costs of the necessary materials. Those materials will include the wiring, conduit, and any special material that the job requires. The amount of money that will cover this section will also include a backup amount of material because it's important to have extra material in case there is a problem with some of the materials or the job calls for more materials than planned.

Man Hours

Labor is going to be a really big part of any bid. The person who is creating the bid is going to have to figure out how much any person can realistically do in one day, how many days it is going to take to do that job, and how many people it will take to finish the time in a timely manner. There are computer programs that help electrical contractors figure out how much labor it is going to take to meet the job, which can make it a lot easier to create the bid.

Creating a successful bid on a construction job can be an art as much as it is a skill. There are a lot of things that go into crafting a winning bid.
